Dominion Road the Musical
Date: July 2016 (Workshop), August 2017 (Development Season) & April 2019 (Remix version)
Role: Composer & Co-Lyricist (with Writer Renee Liang)
Dominion Rd the Musical is an original Kiwi production that showcases the unique cultural diversity of Auckland. The fictitious main storyline centres around Dominion Rd’s business owners and residents fighting local politicians attempting to rebrand it as a ‘Chinatown’.
Such privilege to be part of this awesome project from initial workshop in July 2016, to development season this year. Through this project I had the opportunity to work with some of the most hilarious, and amazing voices I've ever worked with. Also a humbling and great learning experience for being part of the creative team, including producer Sharu Delikan, director Borni Te Rongopai Tukiwaho, music director Lavina Williams, music mentor Fiona Chua, and of cause the amazing creator/writer/co-lyricist, Renee Liang.
"Musically, it's exciting in its diversity. The composer and co-lyricist, Jun Bin Lee, uses a variety of rhythms, traditions, and instruments so each of the songs stands apart."
"A cross-section of the community displays a dedicated commitment to the diverse cultural storylines in Renee Liang's script, captured superbly in the show's score by Jun Bin Lee, confidently embracing cross-cultural musical styles. "
